Hildale Utah & Southwest District Measles Data Update
As of February 22, 2026, Southwest Utah continues to be a focal point for the regional measles outbreak. Public health officials are closely monitoring the “Short Creek” area (Hildale, UT and Colorado City, AZ) due to lower-than-average vaccination rates.
Total Utah Cases (Current Outbreak): 300
Southwest Utah Health District Cases: 158
Vaccination Status: Approximately 89% of confirmed cases were among unvaccinated individuals.
Demographics: 61% of cases in this outbreak involve children under the age of 18.
Hospitalization Rate: Roughly 9% of patients have required inpatient care.
Important Public Health Guidelines
The 21-Day Rule: Measles symptoms can take up to three weeks to appear. If you were at an exposure site in Hildale or St. George, you must monitor your temperature daily.
Wastewater Alerts: Measles virus has recently been detected in wastewater samples within the Southwest Utah Health District, indicating community spread even in areas where clinical cases haven’t been officially reported yet.
Vaccination: The MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccine is 97% effective after two doses. Local clinics in Washington and Iron counties are currently offering walk-in vaccinations for those impacted by the outbreak.
