The ASCVD tool categorizes patients into four distinct risk groups based on the AHA/ACC guidelines:
Low-level (<5%): Risk is low; focus on lifestyle habits.
Borderline level (5% to 7.4%): If “risk enhancers” are present (like family history), clinicians may consider drug therapy.
Intermediate level (7.5% to 19.9%): Often treated with moderate-to-high intensity statins.
High level (≥20%): High likelihood of an event; aggressive preventative therapy is usually initiated.
