Dog BMI Calculator: Check Your Dog’s Ideal Weight

How to Understand Results

Unlike humans, “Ideal” BMI for dogs varies significantly by breed. However, a general rule of thumb using the weight-to-height formula is:

  • Underweight: Ribs and spine are highly visible from a distance.
  • Ideal: Ribs are easily felt but not visible; a visible waistline is present when viewed from above.
  • Overweight: Hard to feel ribs under fat; loss of a visible waistline.

*Note: This calculator uses the standard W/H formula. Always consult your vet for a professional Body Condition Score (BCS) assessment.
